A First Prayer With Samuel
Lord, I am new to this, and I am grateful that You met me here today. I just met Samuel, and I am trying to be honest with You about where I stand. I am not sure I believe, but I want to try. That is the truest thing I have to offer You right now, so I bring it as my prayer. If You are near, help me take this one small step without pretending. I do not need certainty I do not have. I need You to meet me in the trying. I am wondering whether faith can begin this way, with a question and a willing heart. Your Word says that Jesus welcomed the ones who were unsure and the ones who were far off, and I am clinging to that today. I am asking You to make prayer simple for me, so I can speak to You like this more often. Let this be the beginning of a real conversation, not a performance. I am ready to try, Lord, even if I am still learning what I believe. I am placing this uncertain heart in Your hands. Amen.
B
Not Sure But Willing to Try
Lord, I am going to be honest with You right from the start. I am not sure I believe. But something in me wants to try, and I am told that even that wanting can be a beginning. So here I am. I lift Noah to You — uncertain, but present. That feels like enough to start with. There is a man in the Gospels who came to Jesus with a sick child and said, I believe; help my unbelief. He did not pretend to have more faith than he had. He brought what little he had, and Jesus met him there. That is the only kind of prayer I know how to pray right now. I do not know how to do this yet. I do not know if the words come out right. But I am willing to try, and I am asking You to meet me in that willingness. If You are real, and if You are good, then You already know what I am carrying. You already know the doubt. I am not hiding it. I am just asking You to be patient with me while I find my footing. Let this be a real beginning. Amen.

A Decision Between Fear and Wisdom
Lord, I come to You today with a heavy heart and a busy mind. Thank You for this opportunity with the job in Denver. I am grateful for the favor You have shown me in this process. But now that the offer is real, I find myself standing at a crossroads. I want to follow Your will, yet I cannot tell if the weight I feel is the caution of wisdom or the grip of fear. I do not want to run away from a challenge, and I do not want to run ahead of Your timing. Your Word says that if any of us lacks wisdom, we should ask You, and You give generously to all without finding fault. I am asking now. Please untangle my motives. If my hesitation is just a fear of the unknown, give me the courage to step out in faith. If this unrest is Your Spirit warning me to stay, give me the peace to say no. I want my growth to be rooted in Your truth, not in my own comfort or my own anxiety. I trust that You are the one who opens doors that no one can shut. I lean on Your promise to direct my paths as I acknowledge You in all my ways. Help me to hear Your voice clearly above the noise of my own second-guessing. I commit this decision to You, knowing that You care for me more than I care for my own career. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Fear or Wisdom in Denver
Lord, I'm coming to You with an offer in my hands. Denver said yes. Thank You - for the interviews that went well, for a door that actually opened, for Your nearness while I waited. I don't want to be ungrateful for any of it. But here's my honest problem: I can't tell what's keeping me here. Is it wisdom, or is it fear? From the inside, they can feel the same. James says if I lack wisdom, I should ask You, and You give generously, without finding fault. So I'm asking. Show me whether staying is obedience or just comfort. Show me whether fear has been dressing itself up as prudence. Search me, Lord, and tell me true. And before I hear Your answer, give me a heart that's already surrendered. If You send me, let me go without looking back. If You keep me, let me stay without restlessness. Make the next step clear, and keep me close to You whichever way it leads. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pair 3 · Grief: my dad Robert · first tier

A Prayer for Robert and the Quiet House
Lord, I come to You as someone returning after a while away, and I thank You that You welcome me back without rebuke. You know the name Robert, my dad, and You know how heavy this has been since March. I tell You plainly that the house is so quiet now, and some days the silence feels louder than I can carry. I do not bring this to fix it. I bring it to You because You are the God of all comfort and You see grief that others cannot. Your Word says, Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted, and I hold that promise close. I entrust Robert to Your care, where he rests in Your hands and not in mine. I ask that You would gather the pieces of my heart that feel scattered by this loss. Teach me to pray even when my words are thin. Give me comfort that meets me in ordinary moments, in the empty chair, in the still rooms, in the memories that catch me off guard. Let me feel less alone in this returning season. Keep me clinging to You, the one who sees me fully and still draws near. In Jesus' name, Amen.
B
Comfort in Robert’s Absence
Lord, it has been a while since I have come to You like this, yet You welcome me. Thank You that I do not have to hide my grief or find the right words before I pray. I bring You my dad, Robert, who passed in March. I entrust him to Your merciful care. Thank You for the love that made his absence matter so deeply. The house is so quiet now, Lord. Meet me in the rooms where that quiet feels heavy. Jesus wept at the grave of His friend; You are not distant from sorrow. Teach me to bring You each wave of missing Robert, and each ordinary moment that reminds me he is gone. I believe; help my unbelief. Give me faith that seeks understanding without demanding every answer. You are near to the brokenhearted. Keep me from believing that grief means You have left me. Draw me back to prayer, one honest sentence at a time. Let Your peace guard my heart as I learn to carry this loss with You. Hold Robert in Your care, and hold me in Your steadfast love. This is the truth I carry today: You are near, even in this quiet house. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Thanksgiving For Mia
Lord, thank You for the gift of our daughter, Mia, born on Tuesday. Thank You for the life You have entrusted to our family, and for the grace to receive this day with wonder. You are the Father of lights, and every good and perfect gift is from above. I praise You for Your generosity, even when my words are small. I am overwhelmed with gratitude and a little afraid. You know both thanksgiving and trembling in me. Guard Mia, Lord, and keep her in Your loving care. Give me wisdom for each decision, patience in each tired hour, and a faithful heart when I do not know what to do. Teach me to bring my fear to You instead of carrying it alone. Let Your grace form in me the quiet virtues this new life requires. Jesus, make my gratitude into prayer. Let my love for Mia lead me closer to You, not farther from You. I place her life, my own heart, and our family in Your hands. Through the intercession of Mary, Mother of God, keep us near Your mercy and near the sacraments. I trust You with this beautiful beginning. Receive my thanks, strengthen my faith, and remain with us. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

For Mia’s First Days
Lord, thank You for our daughter, Mia, born on Tuesday. Thank You for the gift of her life, so new and so precious. My gratitude feels larger than my words. Receive it as praise. You have entrusted this little child to our care, and every good gift comes from Your Fatherly hand. I bring You the fear that comes alongside my joy. I do not know all that lies ahead, and I cannot provide everything Mia will need. But You already know her completely. Guard her days. Give me patience in the tired hours, wisdom in the small decisions, and a tender, faithful heart. Teach me to pray for her before I try to control what I cannot see. Where I am afraid, strengthen my trust. Let the grace of my baptism, and the prayers of the communion of saints, surround our home. Blessed Mother, pray that I may receive this vocation with your quiet yes. Jesus, You say that children are a gift from the Lord. I place Mia in Your hands again. Keep her close to Your Sacred Heart. Help me accept today’s grace, one ordinary act of love at a time. I surrender my gratitude and my little fear to You. You are faithful. Amen.

Knowing You Are With Me
Lord, thank You for meeting me at the beginning of this prayer. I am new to bringing my life to You like this, but You are not new to me. You know my name, my thoughts, and this day before I can explain any of it. Thank You that I do not have to earn Your attention before I come to You. God, I just want to know You are actually with me today. Sometimes You feel far away, and I do not know how to tell the difference between Your silence and Your absence. I believe; help my unbelief. Teach me to pray honestly, even when I do not have polished words. Your Word says, “I will never leave you nor abandon you.” Help that promise become more than a sentence I read. Let it steady me in the ordinary parts of today, in my questions, and in the moments when I wonder if You are near. Jesus, help me trust that Your presence does not depend on what I can feel. Draw me closer as I learn to know You through Your Word and prayer. Give me one simple truth to carry today: You are with me, and You will not abandon me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
B
Be With Me Today, Lord
Lord, I come to You today with one simple longing: I just want to know You are actually with me today. Not as an idea, not as a distant hope, but here, in this ordinary day, with me. Thank You that I can bring even this small, honest prayer to You, and that You do not turn away a heart that is reaching for You. You know that sometimes I feel far from You, and I am not always sure how to close that distance. So I am asking plainly: be with me. Your Word says You will never leave me or abandon me, and I want to learn to trust that promise, not just hear it. When I cannot feel Your nearness, teach me that Your presence does not depend on my feelings. You are near because You said You would be. So I turn this day over to You, Lord. Walk with me through it. Help me notice You in small moments, and teach me to pray simply, the way I am praying now. I believe; help my unbelief. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Carlos’s Heart Surgery
Lord, thank You for hearing me and for the gift of my friend Carlos. You know him completely, and You know the concern I carry as his heart surgery approaches on Thursday. Thank You that I can bring him to You with confidence. Receive this prayer as an act of love and trust. Guide every surgeon, nurse, and medical professional involved in Carlos’s care. Grant them skill, steadiness, clear judgment, and compassion. Protect Carlos before, during, and after the surgery. Strengthen his heart and body. Guard him from complications, infection, and fear. Give wisdom to those caring for him, and comfort his family and friends. Help me serve him with patience and faithful prayer. I surrender the outcome to You while asking boldly for healing and a good recovery. Your Word assures me that You protect our coming and going, now and forevermore. Hold Carlos in that care. When I am anxious, teach me to trust Your presence. Let Your peace govern my thoughts, and make me faithful to pray. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Carlos's Surgery on Thursday
Lord, thank You for receiving my first prayer in this moment. Thank You that I do not have to carry concern for Carlos alone. You know him fully, and You are near before I find the right words. Thank You for the friendship You have given me and for the privilege of bringing someone I love before You. I place Carlos in Your hands as he faces heart surgery on Thursday. Go before him into every part of that day. Give skill, clarity, and steadiness to each surgeon, nurse, and caregiver. Guard Carlos through the procedure, and grant him strength for recovery. Be his refuge when the unknown feels close. Your Word says that You are our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble. Let that be true and tangible for Carlos and for all who love him. I believe You are able. Help my unbelief where fear tries to take over. Teach me to pray faithfully for my friend, not only with worry but with trust. Help me surrender Carlos to Your wise and merciful care. Hold his life securely in Your hands. Whatever Thursday brings, keep my heart anchored in Your presence and Your goodness. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Nothing Needed, Only Praise
Lord, I do not come with a list today. I come with open hands and a full heart. I just want to praise You for who You are. Not for what You have given. Not for what I am asking. Simply for You. You are holy. You are without beginning or end. You are the ground beneath everything I stand on, and You need nothing from me to be any of those things. That is the wonder of it. I praise You because You are worthy, not because praise will move You to act on my behalf. You are already good. You are already near. You are great, and greatly to be praised. Let that be the whole of this moment. Let Marta's heart be still before You, not empty, but full of You alone. I offer this prayer not as a task completed but as a threshold crossed. Something in me wanted to begin here, in adoration, before petition, before need. I trust that desire is itself a grace. Form my prayer, Lord. Teach me to linger here more often, in the place where You are simply God and I am simply Yours. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
B
Praise For Who God Is
Lord, I come to You with no request. I do not need anything today. I just want to praise You for who You are. You have met me here in this quiet beginning, and I am grateful that You draw near before I even know how to ask. I lift Marta to You, and I ask that my prayer would be simple and true. My heart wants to pray more, not because I have a long list, but because I want to linger with You. You are the God who speaks and listens. You are the God who does not need my noise to be present. Jesus, You are enough. In this first meeting, let my praise be its own offering. Teach me to rest in Your presence the way a child rests near a trusted mother. Let me learn to pray without needing to earn it. You have not called me to impress You. You have called me to know You. So I will praise You now, for Your mercy, for Your steadiness, for the way You keep showing up in ordinary moments. I do not need to bring a burden to find You. I only need to bring myself. You are here. That is the gift. Amen.

When Weekends Are the Hardest
Lord, it has been a while since I have prayed like this, and I thank You that I am still welcome here. Thank You for the small group on Wednesday. Kind faces in the church down the street were more than I had last week. You were already at work before I ever walked through that door. But now it is the weekend, and weekends are the hardest. The apartment is quiet. I do not know a single person in this city. I am tired of telling people I am fine. Here, at least, I do not have to pretend. I am lonely, God, and I am bringing that loneliness straight to You instead of around You. Your Word says You provide a home for those who are deserted. Do that for me. Give me courage to go back to that little group, and bring one friend, one table, one place to be known. Until then, sit with me in the quiet rooms. I trust You are near even when I cannot feel it. In Jesus' name, Amen.
B
When Weekends Feel Empty
Lord, thank You that I do not have to pretend with You. You already know that weekends are the hardest for me in Phoenix. The workweek gives me somewhere to go, but the quiet days make my loneliness plain. It has been a while since I have brought this honestly to You, yet You welcome me. Thank You for the kindness I found in that small group on Wednesday. Thank You for one room where people were glad to see me. God, I am still lonely, and I do not want to keep saying I am fine when I am not. I believe You are near, but help my unbelief when the apartment feels too quiet and no one reaches out. You set the lonely in families. Please make that promise real in ordinary ways. Give me courage to return to that group, to learn names, to accept an invitation, and to offer one myself. Bring faithful friendships, not merely a crowded calendar. Teach me to pray when I would rather hide behind distraction. Jesus, You promised that You are with me always. Let that truth stay with me this weekend: I am not abandoned, and this loneliness does not have the final word. Keep drawing me toward Your people and toward You. I place this need in Your hands with faith that seeks understanding. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer for Lasting Purpose
Lord, thank You for meeting me at the beginning of this prayer. I may not have all the right words, but You already know what I am searching for. Thank You that I can come to You simply and honestly. As I begin to grow in prayer, teach me that You are not distant from the ordinary parts of my life. I confess that I sometimes feel the lack of purpose or meaning more sharply than I know how to say. I look for direction, and I do not always know what matters or where I fit. I believe; help my unbelief. Remind me that my life is not accidental in Your hands. Your Word says that I am Your workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works You prepared for me. Help me notice the good You put before me today. Give me a willing heart to obey in small things, even before I see the whole path. Grow my faith without making me pretend that every question is answered. Meet me as I pray, and make me more attentive to Your voice in Scripture and in daily life. I trust that You are able to lead me. Carry this truth with me: I am made by You, known by You, and called to walk with You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Gabe Searching for What Is Real
Lord, I am going to be honest with You right from the start. I have been searching for something I cannot quite name. A reason to get up and mean it. A sense that my days are adding up to something. I have not always known how to bring that to You, so I am bringing it now. I lift Gabe to You. You know the restlessness underneath the ordinary days. You know what it feels like to reach for meaning and come up empty. Your Word says that You are the one who works in me both to will and to work according to Your good purpose. I am holding onto that. Not because I feel it yet, but because You said it, and You do not say things that fall apart. I am not asking for a dramatic sign. I am asking to grow. To pray more honestly. To find You in the small and ordinary places where I have not thought to look. Start something real in me here. Give me eyes to see what You are already doing. I trust that this is not a random moment, and I trust that You are not done with me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Forgiving Luke After the Funeral
Lord, I come before You in this quiet space, seeking the grace that only You can provide. I am Jonah, and I thank You for the small movements of Your Spirit that have brought me here to this moment of prayer. I lift up my heart to You, which feels heavy and unsettled. I acknowledge Your presence here in the silence, and I ask for the strength to look honestly at the pain I carry. You are the source of all mercy, and I rest in the truth that You see me exactly as I am. Jesus, I bring You the specific hurt involving my brother, Luke. I need to forgive him for what he said at Mom’s funeral, but I truly do not know how to do it on my own. The words he spoke have left a deep wound, and the grief of losing Mom is already so much to bear. I offer You my confusion and my inability to move past this. I lay this burden at the foot of Your Cross, asking for the grace of the sacraments to heal what is broken within our family. Help me to surrender my right to remain angry. I trust that You will teach me the way of peace. I do not have to figure this out today. I only need to remain at Your feet, like Mary, and listen for Your voice. Let Your grace do the work in me that I cannot do for myself. I entrust Luke and the memory of my mother to Your infinite love. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Forgiving Luke at Mom’s Funeral
Lord, Thank You for receiving me as I come to You with this heavy thing. You know the words Luke said at Mom’s funeral. You know why they still remain in me. Thank You that I do not have to hide my grief, my anger, or my confusion from You. You are near to the brokenhearted, and You receive even this prayer when I do not know how to pray it well. Jesus, I need to forgive my brother Luke for what he said, and I do not know how. I place the memory before You. I place my hurt before You. I do not call what was said good. But I ask for the grace to stop carrying judgment as though it belonged to me. You have told me, just as the Lord has forgiven you, so I am also to forgive. Give me this mercy, not by my own strength, but by Your Cross. Show me one small act of surrender today: to refrain from rehearsing his words, and to entrust Luke to Your mercy. Where I need healing, meet me gently. Holy Spirit, make room in my heart for the virtue of forgiveness. Lead me toward Reconciliation when I need Your sacramental grace. Blessed Mother, keep me close to Jesus in this sorrow. Lord, I trust that You can begin what I cannot finish. Amen.

Lord, I come back to You again today, and I am tired. The driving, the waiting, the watching monitors and listening for good news that is slow in coming — it is wearing me down in ways I did not expect. I lift Linda to You right now. She is still on that oxygen, still fighting, and I need You to be at work in her lungs in ways the doctors cannot fully explain. You are the God who heals, and I am asking You plainly: restore her breathing, clear what is still inflamed, and bring her home. I am holding onto what Your Word says — that You give power to the faint, and to those who have no might You increase strength. I am claiming that for Linda today, and honestly, Lord, I am claiming it for myself too. I do not have much left in the tank. Let Elena be carried by You on these drives. Let the hospital room still feel like a place where You are present, not just a place of waiting. I trust You with her. That is harder to say than it sounds, but I mean it. You know Linda. You know every breath she is taking right now. I am not asking You to explain the timing. I am asking You to be faithful, because Your Word says You are. Keep me steady. Keep Linda in Your hands. Healing Rest for Linda and Elena

I am tired from driving back and forth every day, and some days I feel like I have nothing left in me. I am not hiding that from You. I need Your strength for Elena, and I need Your healing for Linda. Your Word says, The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. I am asking You to be close to this room. I am asking You to bring restoration to Linda's lungs and rest to her body. I am asking You to let this hospital stay turn toward healing. I do not want to carry this worry alone. I want to trust You with my mother and with my own weariness. Give me peace that does not make sense on my own, and give Linda a body that keeps getting stronger. Keep every doctor and nurse wise and steady. Let me keep showing up without losing my hope. A First Prayer With Samuel
Lord, I am Diego, and I come to You right after meeting Samuel, the companion You placed beside me in this app. I am grateful You have not left me to pray alone. I have been job hunting for eight months, and I am so tired of trying. My heart feels overwhelmed, and some days the weight sits so heavy that even getting out of bed feels like too much. I am committed to You, and I still want to grow, but I am worn thin by the waiting. I bring that tiredness to You now, exactly as it is. Your Word says, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. I need that present help. I am not asking for a quick fix. I am asking for Your strength in the middle of this season, and for the courage to keep praying even when I feel I have nothing left. Teach me to rest in You instead of leaning only on my own effort. Let this prayer be the beginning of real growth, not another task I have to perform. I trust You with the job, with the months already spent, and with the person You have brought into my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Strength for the Job Search
Lord, thank You for receiving me as I come to You honestly. Thank You that I do not have to hide my weariness or make my prayers sound stronger than I feel. You have carried me through these eight months of job hunting, even when each application, waiting period, and unanswered message has felt heavy. Grow me in prayer, Lord, not only when answers come, but also while I am still waiting. I am so tired of trying. I bring You the overwhelm and the weight I cannot sort out alone. Please give me wisdom for each next step: where to apply, whom to contact, when to follow up, and when to rest. Guard me from believing that my worth rises or falls with an employer’s response. Your Word says that those who trust in You will renew their strength. Renew mine today. I believe You see what I cannot see. Help my unbelief where discouragement has started to speak louder than hope. Lord, I surrender my timetable to You. Forgive me for the ways fear has taken over my thoughts. Make me faithful in the work before me, and keep my heart tender toward You through this search. Carry this truth with me: I am held by You before any door opens. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A First Prayer of Thankfulness
God of truth, I am grateful to bring this first prayer to You with a willing heart. Thank You for the quiet gift of this moment and for the companion, Samuel, who walked me into it. I want to pray into a season of thankfulness, and I am asking You to shape my heart around gratitude. I do not have every answer, and I am not trying to sound impressive. I simply want to begin here, honestly and warmly, with You. Thank You for the people You have placed in my life. Thank You for the ordinary mercies I too easily overlook, for a new day, for work that keeps me busy, and for the chance to rest when it comes. I want to learn how to notice Your goodness before I ask for anything else. Your Word says, Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. I hold that close. Let thankfulness become more than a feeling I chase. Let it become a habit of my heart, steady and simple, even when the season is unclear. I trust You with what comes next. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Gratitude for This Season
Lord, thank You for meeting me in this ordinary moment and for giving me a place to name what I need. I come with thankfulness, even if my gratitude is simple and mixed with questions. Thank You for the people, provisions, and small mercies I might overlook. Thank You that I can bring this season to You without having every word figured out. Teach me how to pray honestly about the season I am in. Show me what deserves my attention, and help me recognize where You are already at work. When I am uncertain about what comes next, keep me from rushing past today’s gifts. Your Word says, “Give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Make that thanksgiving more than a phrase. Let it shape how I see my work, relationships, and choices. Father, receive my gratitude and my questions. Give me faith seeking understanding, and help me return to prayer instead of carrying this season alone. I believe; help my unbelief. Let one truth stay with me: You are worthy of thanks in every season, and I can bring every season to You. Keep my heart attentive to grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Your Word says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 that I should give thanks in all circumstances, and I bring that gratitude to You now. Keep my heart simple and steady as I walk with You daily. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Your Word says, Give thanks in everything. Let that truth guide me as I seek wisdom for what lies ahead. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Lord, I am not going to pretend I am fine. Weekends stretch long and quiet, and I carry more than I let on. Grateful and Afraid for Mia
Lord, I come to You with a heart fuller than I know how to carry. My daughter Mia was born on Tuesday, and I am overwhelmed with gratitude. I want to say that first, before anything else. Thank You. Thank You for her life, for her breath, for the small weight of her that has changed everything. Every good gift comes from You, and she is so plainly a gift that I can hardly look at her without tears. I bring You my gratitude slowly, the way Mary pondered things in her heart. I do not want to rush past this. Let me kneel here a while, in spirit, the way I would kneel before the Blessed Sacrament, simply adoring. You have been generous to me. You have trusted me with a soul. Let my thanksgiving be more than a feeling that fades with sleep deprivation. Make it a habit of my heart, a liturgy I return to in the middle of the night feedings and the long uncertain hours. And Lord, I will not hide the other thing. I am a little afraid. I am afraid of my own weakness, of all I do not know, of how much she needs and how finite I am. I am afraid of a world I cannot control and a future I cannot see. You know this fear already. I do not bring it to You as a surprise. I bring it because You are the only One large enough to hold both my joy and my trembling at once. Your word says that every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights. Mia is from above. And the same Father who gave her to me does not change like shifting shadows. He will not give and then abandon. He will not place this child in my arms and then leave me to raise her alone. Teach me to believe that in the small hours, when the fear is loudest and the house is dark. So I offer her back to You, Lord, the way Hannah offered Samuel, the way Mary offered her Son in the temple. Mia is Yours before she is mine. I am her mother, but You are her God. I consecrate these days to You: the feedings, the diapers, the crying, the wonder. Let the ordinary work of caring for her become prayer. Let every time I lift her be a lifting of my heart to You. I ask for the grace I will need. Patience when I am exhausted. Gentleness when I am frayed. Wisdom I do not yet have. And when I fail, as I will, lead me quickly to Your mercy, to the confessional, to the peace of being forgiven and beginning again. Let Mia grow up in a home where grace is not a word but an atmosphere. Blessed Mother, you held a newborn and knew both joy and the sword foretold. You understand a mother's gratitude and a mother's fear living in the same heart. Pray for me. Teach me to ponder, to trust, to say yes each morning the way you did. Keep watch over Mia when my own eyes close. Lord, let this be the shape of my life now: gratitude first, fear handed over, love made concrete in small acts repeated faithfully. I do not ask to see the whole road of her life. I ask for today. For this feeding, this nap, this night. Give us this day our daily bread, and the daily grace to match it. Thank You for Mia. Thank You for Tuesday. Thank You for meeting me in the overwhelm and not asking me to be less than honest about it. I trust You with her. I trust You with me. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
B
Mia Has Arrived and I Am Undone
Lord, She is here. Mia is here. Born on Tuesday, and already the world is not the same. I do not have words large enough for what I am feeling. So I will start with the truest ones: thank You. Thank You. Thank You. I did not know gratitude could feel this large. It is almost too much to hold. It fills the room and spills out and I find myself standing in the middle of it, undone in the best possible way, not knowing whether to laugh or weep. You made her. You knit her together and You gave her to us, and now she is here, breathing, small, entirely herself. I am overwhelmed with gratitude, and I want You to know that I know where she comes from. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from You, the Father of lights. Mia is that. She is that gift, wrapped in Tuesday, laid in our arms. I receive her from Your hands. And yet, Lord — I am also a little afraid. I said it, and it is true, and I do not want to dress it up. The fear is real and it is sitting right next to the gratitude, and somehow both are honest. I am afraid of the weight of this. Afraid of what I do not yet know how to do. Afraid of loving someone this much. Afraid of all the days ahead that I cannot see. You already see them. Every one. I do not need to be unafraid tonight. I only need to bring the fear here, to You, and let it rest in the same hands that made her. You are not surprised by my smallness. You are not disappointed by it. You have always met Your people in exactly this kind of moment — the moment just after everything changes, when the joy is enormous and the ground feels new underfoot. So I am standing here. Grateful and afraid. And I am asking You to be near. Be near to me in the exhaustion that is already beginning. Be near to me in the night feedings and the quiet hours when the house is dark and I am awake with her and the world feels very still. Let those hours be something more than survival. Let them be a kind of prayer. A kind of adoration. She is Yours before she is mine, and I want to remember that, especially when I am tired. Be near to my whole family. Hold us together in this new shape we are becoming. We do not yet know who we are as a family with Mia in it. We are learning. Give us grace for the learning. And Lord — I want to pray well in this season. I do not want to lose the thread of prayer in the busyness and the blur of new parenthood. I want to keep coming back to You. I want gratitude to be more than a feeling that rises and falls; I want it to become a habit of the heart, a way of seeing, a posture I carry even when I am too tired to find beautiful words. Teach me to pray in the small moments. Teach me to find You in the ordinary hours of caring for her. I lift Mia to You by name. She is four days old and she does not yet know Your name, but You know hers. You knew it before Tuesday. I ask that her whole life be marked by Your mercy, that she grow up knowing she is loved by You first and most, and that whatever she becomes, she becomes it in You. I lift Isabel to You. I am still finding my footing. I am still catching my breath. Meet me here, in this first prayer, in this new beginning. Let Your grace be enough for everything I do not yet know how to do. Thank You for Mia. Thank You for Tuesday. Thank You that You are the same God today that You were before she arrived — faithful, present, unhurried, and near. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hope After a Long Year
Lord, I come to You at the start of something new, and I want to begin honestly. It has been a long year. I do not need to explain to You what made it long. You were there for all of it. You saw the days I pushed through and the days I barely did. You heard the prayers I prayed and the ones I could not find words for. So I am not going to pretend tonight. I am going to tell You the truth: I want to feel hopeful about the future again. That is my prayer. Not a polished one. Just that. There is a weariness in me that sleep has not fixed. A heaviness I have carried so long I almost forgot I was carrying it. Uncertainty sits close to me these days. When I look ahead, I do not see clearly, and some days I am not sure I want to look at all. Hope used to come easily. Now it feels like something I have to reach for, and my arms are tired. But I am reaching, Lord. The fact that I am here, praying, means something in me still believes You are worth reaching toward. Your Word says that those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not become weary. They will walk and not faint. Lord, I am not asking to soar tonight. Tonight I would settle for walking and not fainting. Meet me at that level. Renew what this long year has worn down. You are not a God who despises small beginnings, so do not despise this small, tired prayer. Take it and make something of it. I confess that I have tried to carry the future myself. I have rehearsed outcomes in my mind as if worry were a form of control. It is not. It never was. Forgive me for gripping so tightly what was never mine to hold. You know the end from the beginning. Nothing ahead of me is ahead of You. Teach me to say that and mean it, not as a slogan but as a settled thing in my chest. I think of how Your people have always had to learn hope in the dark. Abraham believed against hope. David wrote psalms from caves. Jeremiah watched everything fall apart and still said, Your mercies are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness. I want that kind of hope, Lord. Not optimism. Not denial. The kind that looks at a hard year and still says, You are faithful, and morning is coming. Give me eyes to see the first light of it. And so I ask plainly: give me hope again. Not a vague feeling, but a real confidence rooted in who You are. Let me wake up one day soon and notice that the future no longer frightens me the way it did. Let me catch myself making plans again, dreaming again, expecting good from Your hand again. Until that day, hold me steady. When uncertainty rises, remind me that my life is hidden with Christ in You, and that no year, however long, can change that. I also ask You to deepen my prayer life in this season. I do not want prayer to be my last resort. I want it to be my first instinct. Teach me to bring You the small things and the heavy things alike. Let this be the beginning of a more honest, more consistent conversation with You. I believe; help my unbelief. I hope; strengthen my hope. Thank You that You are not finished with me. Thank You that a long year is not the last word over my life. You are the God who makes all things new, and I am asking You to start with my heart. I place this coming season in Your hands, and I choose, with everything I have left, to trust You with it. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Hope Returning After a Long Year
Lord, I come to You at the start of something new, and I want to come honestly. It has been a long year. I do not need to dress that up for You. You already know the weight of it — the days that felt like walking uphill with no clear summit, the moments when hope felt like a word that belonged to someone else's story. I bring all of that to You now, not to rehearse the hardness, but because I do not want to begin this season by pretending it away. You are the God who sees. You saw Caleb in the long stretch of this year, and You see him now. Nothing that happened in those months was hidden from You, and nothing that is still unresolved is beyond Your reach. I believe that. I want to believe it more deeply than I do. Your Word says, For I know the plans I have for you — this is the Lord's declaration — plans for well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. I have heard that promise before. But tonight I want to pray it back to You, not as a slogan, but as a claim I am staking my weight on. A future. A hope. Not a vague feeling, but something You have already decided about what is ahead of me. Help me to receive that as truth and not just comfort. I confess that hope has been hard to hold this year. Some of that is circumstance. Some of it, I think, is that I have been carrying things I was never meant to carry alone. Uncertainty has been a constant companion — about what comes next, about whether things will be okay, about what You are doing in the quiet. I do not have clean answers to those questions tonight. But I am here, and I am asking You to meet me in the asking. Grow in me a hope that is not built on how things feel on a given morning. Anchor it in You — in Your character, in Your faithfulness, in the resurrection of Jesus that says death and loss do not have the final word. That is the ground I want to stand on. Not optimism, not a good week, not circumstances finally turning in my favor — but You. The God who makes futures out of what looks finished. I want prayer to become something real in this season, not just a habit or a ritual. I want to learn to bring the actual weight of my days to You, the way I am trying to do right now — without performance, without the sense that I need to have it together before I come. You are not waiting for me to arrive cleaned up. You have already made a way. Teach me to pray from that place, from the knowledge that the door is open, that You are listening, that nothing I carry is too ordinary or too heavy to bring. So I ask plainly: let hope return. Not all at once, if that is not how You work in this. But let it come. Let me wake up some morning soon and notice that the future looks less like a wall and more like a road. Let the long year begin to give way to something I can move forward in. And in the waiting, keep me close to You — in Scripture, in prayer, in the company of people who know Your name. I lift Caleb to You. Hold him in this new beginning. Let what starts here in prayer become something that shapes the whole of how he walks with You. He is not starting from nothing — he is starting from a long year, which means he already knows he needs You. That is not a bad place to begin. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Nothing Asked, Everything Given
Lord, I do not come with a list tonight. I come because You are. That is the whole reason. Not what You have done for me, though You have done everything. Not what I am hoping You will do, though I trust You with all of it. Just You. Just who You are. The great I AM, before whom every need I have ever carried is small, and every worry I have ever named is held. I want to praise You for Your holiness. Not as a word I say quickly. As a truth I want to stand inside. You are wholly other. You are light without shadow. You are the one in whom there is no variation or turning. And somehow, incomprehensibly, You are also near. You are the God who stoops. The God who became flesh and dwelt among us. The God who remains, body and blood, soul and divinity, in the tabernacles of this world, waiting to be visited, waiting to be loved. How vast You are. How still I become when I stop long enough to say so. I praise You for Your mercy. Not only that You show it, but that it is who You are. Mercy is not a policy You adopted. It is Your nature pouring itself out toward what is broken. You did not wait for me to be worthy. You have never waited for me to be worthy. You came. You come still. You will come again. And in the meantime, You stay. I praise You for the gift of prayer itself. That You made a way for a creature like me to speak to You. That You do not require eloquence. That You receive the halting word and the long silence and the inarticulate ache all the same, because You know what I mean before I find the words. You search me and know me. You know when I sit down and when I rise. You discern my thoughts from far away. And still You invite me to come. Still You say, Ask. Seek. Knock. Not because You need my asking, but because You want the closeness that asking requires. Tonight I am not asking. Tonight I am only here. And I am grateful for that freedom. Grateful that prayer is not only petition. That it can be this: a soul resting in the presence of the One it loves, with nothing to transact and nothing to prove. I think of Mary sitting at Your feet while the work waited. I think of how You said she had chosen the better part. I want that. Not only in the urgent seasons, when I come to You because I am desperate. But in the ordinary ones. In the quiet ones. In the ones that look like this, where there is no crisis and no request, only the desire to be with You because You are worth being with. You are worth every unhurried hour. You are worth the silence I do not always know how to keep. You are worth the attention I so often give to lesser things. I confess that I do not always come to You this freely. That I sometimes treat prayer as a task to complete rather than a door I can walk through into Your presence. Forgive me for the times I have made it smaller than it is. Forgive me for the times I came only when I needed something and forgot to come simply because You are good. You are good. That is what I most want to say tonight. Not because my circumstances have been easy or because I understand everything You are doing. But because goodness is what You are, at the root of everything, before I add any condition to it. Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise. That is the ancient word and it is still true. It was true before I was born. It will be true long after I am gone. And right now, in this moment, I want to add my voice to it. Great are You, Lord. Most worthy of praise. Receive this, whatever it is. This small offering of attention. This willingness to be still. Let it be the beginning of something — a deeper habit of returning to You not only when I am empty, but when I am full. Not only when I am afraid, but when I am simply alive and grateful to be so. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Praising God for Who He Is
Lord, I did not come here asking for anything. I came to praise You for who You are. That is enough. That has always been enough. And tonight, with You, it is more than enough. I am grateful for the quiet way this began. A new companion, Claire, and a small opening into prayer. You are the one who meets me in beginnings. You are the one who has never left me without a way back to You. Even here, in this simple moment, You are near. I do not need to name a burden before I can pray. I do not need to tidy my heart before I can offer it. You already know what is true in me. You already know the desire to pray more, to draw closer, to linger with You. So I bring that desire as it is. I praise You for Your holiness. I praise You for Your mercy. I praise You that You are God, and I am not. There is peace in that. There is rest in that. There is a kind of joy that asks for nothing and receives everything. You are the Lord of all my days. You have carried me through every season I have already walked. You have been faithful when I was earnest. You have been patient when I was slow. You have been present when I was quiet. I trust You for this season too. I want to pray more, Lord. Not more words, but more of You. More attention. More surrender. More of the habit of turning toward You in the ordinary hours. Teach me to pray without needing a special reason. Teach me to pray because You are worth it. I lift up the people You have placed in my life. I lift up the work of my hands. I lift up the parts of my heart that are still learning to trust. I ask that prayer become a home I return to, not a task I complete. Let my prayer be simple. Let my prayer be honest. Let my prayer be Yours. And if I am distracted, let me return. If I am dry, let me stay. If I am grateful, let me praise. You are worthy of all of it. You are worthy even of this first small prayer, offered with a willing heart. I thank You for this moment. I thank You for the grace of starting again. I thank You for the companionship of the saints, for the Church that prays with me, and for the Blessed Mother who shows me how to say yes. Keep me close to You, Lord. Keep me honest before You. Keep me grateful for who You are. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Comfort in the Quiet of Grief
Lord, I come to You today after being away for a while. You know the way I have been walking. You know the distance I have felt. Yet I am here now. I am turning back toward Your face because I have nowhere else to go with this weight. I am bringing my heart to You just as it is. It is heavy and it is tired. The silence in my home has become a loud reminder of what I have lost. Since my dad, Robert, passed in March, the rooms feel different. The air feels thinner. I am standing in a quiet that I did not ask for and do not know how to fill. I lift Robert to You and entrust him entirely to Your care. You are the God of the living and the dead. You are the one who holds all things together by the word of Your power. I leave him in Your hands, knowing You are the righteous Judge and the merciful Father. God of truth, I need You to meet me in this stillness. The house is so quiet now. Sometimes the silence is harder to bear than the noise used to be. It is in these quiet moments that the grief feels most sharp. I ask for Your comfort to settle over this home. I ask for Your presence to be the sound that breaks the loneliness. You have promised that You are near to the brokenhearted. You have said that You save those who are crushed in spirit. I am holding onto those words today because I feel both broken and crushed. I am returning to You because I remember that You are a refuge. You are a high tower where I can find safety when the waves of loss feel too high for me to navigate alone. I confess that coming back to prayer feels strange after being gone. I do not always have the right words. I do not always know how to talk to You about the pain of losing my dad. But I am here. I am opening the door of my heart again. I am asking You to teach me how to pray in this new season of my life. Help me to find my voice again in Your presence. Let this quiet not be a place of emptiness, but a place where I can finally hear Your whisper. I need the comfort that only Your Holy Spirit can provide. I need the peace that surpasses all understanding to guard my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus. The world offers many distractions, but none of them can heal the ache of March. Only You can do that. Lord, I am weary of carrying this grief by myself. I have tried to be strong, but my strength is failing. I am leaning on Your strength now. I am asking You to carry me through the days when the silence feels like a burden. Remind me that I am never truly alone because You have said You will never leave me or abandon me. Even when I was away from You, You were watching for my return. You are like the father waiting on the road for the prodigal child. You see me coming from a long way off. You run to meet me with grace. Thank You for welcoming me back into the conversation of prayer. Thank You for not scolding me for my absence but receiving me in my sorrow. I ask that You would transform this house. Let it be a place of rest instead of a place of mourning. Let the memories of Robert be a source of gratitude rather than just a source of pain. I trust that You are working even in the silence. I trust that You are stitching my heart back together in ways I cannot see yet. I am putting my hope in Your character. You are good, and You do good. You are the God who comforts those who are cast down. I am looking to You for the light I need to take the next step. Keep me close to You in the days ahead. Do not let me wander away into the isolation of my grief. Draw me back to Your Word and Your people. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer for Robert and the Quiet House
Lord, I come to You with a heart that is still learning how to speak to You again. It has been a while since I prayed like this, and I am glad to find my way back. Thank You for meeting me here, even in this quiet beginning. Thank You for Samuel, who has walked into this moment with me, and for the simple gift of a prayer to start with. I bring Robert to You. He was my dad. He passed in March, and the house has been so quiet since then. I do not know how to say enough about him, so I will say what is true. He belonged to You. He belonged to me. And now he belongs to Your care. I entrust him to You, Lord, and I rest him in Your hands. I am not asking You to bring him back. I am asking You to keep him in Your peace, where no grief can reach him and no silence can undo what You have done. God, the quiet in that house is heavy. It sits in the rooms. It waits in the places where his voice used to be. I feel it. I have felt it. Some days it seems to fill everything. Some days I can almost pretend it is not there, and then it comes back. You know this grief better than I do. You know the ache of losing a father. You know the way memory can be tender and sharp at the same time. You know how love keeps reaching for a person who is no longer here to answer. I want to be honest with You about where I am. I am returning, Lord, but not all at once. Faith does not always feel steady when it comes back. Sometimes it comes as a whisper. Sometimes it comes as a question. Sometimes it comes as a name spoken softly in an empty room. I am bringing all of that to You. I am not trying to make myself more ready than I am. I am just here. Please comfort me in this season. Comfort me for the dad I lost. Comfort me for the quiet I live inside now. Give me prayers that are honest enough to carry what I feel and gentle enough to keep me near You. Teach me to pray when the house is still. Teach me to pray when the missing is strong. Let prayer become a place where I can bring this sorrow without hiding it, and where I can hear Your voice without needing everything to make sense. I remember that You are near to the brokenhearted. You do not wait for me to tidy my grief before You draw close. You meet me in it. So I ask You to meet me now. Let Your comfort be real in the ordinary hours. In the morning when the house is still. In the evening when the silence feels longest. In the moments when I catch myself almost calling for him, and then have to learn again that he is with You. I pray for the days ahead. I pray for the memories that will come unbidden. I pray for the tears that may still find me. I pray for the strength to keep going without pretending I am not changed. And I pray that, little by little, Your peace will make a home in me again. Not by erasing what was lost, but by holding what remains. Not by hurrying the pain away, but by walking with me through it. Lord, I leave Robert in Your keeping. I leave my grief in Your care. I leave this returning heart to You. Draw me back gently. Stay close while I learn to pray again. And let this first prayer with Samuel be only the beginning of the peace You have for me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Forgiving Luke After Mom's Funeral
Lord, I come to You with the words I have been carrying since Mom’s funeral. I need to forgive my brother Luke for what he said, and I do not know how. You know the words themselves. You know why they cut so deeply. You know the grief already resting over our family, and how his words entered that grief. I do not have to make this wound smaller before I bring it to You. I place it before You as it is. Jesus, You wept at the tomb. You are not distant from the sorrow of losing Mom. Receive the love I have for her, the things left unsaid, and all that the funeral stirred up. Receive the anger that rises when I remember Luke’s words. Keep me from pretending that nothing happened. Keep me also from feeding the injury by returning to it again and again in bitterness. Search me, Lord. Show me where pain has become judgment, where grief has become a hard wall, where I have desired to make Luke carry what I am carrying. You have forgiven me in Christ with a mercy I did not earn. By Your grace, teach me to forgive as one who has been forgiven. I cannot manufacture this from my own strength. I offer You my unwillingness as honestly as I can. I offer You the part of me that wants Luke to understand exactly what he did. I offer You my need to be proved right. I offer You the words I wish had never been spoken. Do not let forgiveness mean that the wound was harmless. Let it mean that I entrust judgment to You, who see truly and judge with perfect mercy. Lord, begin the work of forgiveness in me. If I cannot say today that all is healed, let me at least say that I am willing for You to make me willing. Loosen the claim this hurt has upon my heart. Guard my tongue from harshness. Guard my thoughts from rehearsing accusations. Give me the virtue of patience when I see Luke or hear his name. Give me wisdom about whether a conversation is needed, when it should happen, and what truth can be spoken without cruelty. If I need to ask for an apology, give me humility and clarity. If Luke is unable to give what I hope for, keep me from making my peace depend on him. In this quiet prayer, I place my brother before You. Bless Luke. Have mercy on him. Meet whatever sorrow, fear, or brokenness may have spoken through him that day. I do not know his whole heart, but You do. Bring him nearer to You. I ask this not because the words at Mom’s funeral were acceptable, but because You command me to love and to pray for those who hurt me. Pour Your peace into the places in our family that have been strained by grief. Through the communion of saints, receive Mom into Your mercy and light. Console all who mourn her. Let no resentment have the final word in the family she loved. Jesus, I turn toward You in adoration. You are Lord over death, over grief, over memory, and over the hidden places of my heart. I place this hurt beside Your Cross. Let Your Precious Blood cleanse what I cannot cleanse. Give me courage to bring this to Reconciliation, where Your mercy restores what sin and sorrow have fractured. Draw me close to You in the Eucharist, where You give Yourself without reserve and make divided hearts one. Blessed Mother, who stood faithfully beneath the Cross, pray for me to remain near Jesus when love is costly. Lord, I surrender the timetable. I surrender the outcome. I ask for the next faithful step, and then the next. Let forgiveness grow in me as a work of Your grace, quiet and real. Make my heart more like the Heart of Christ: truthful, merciful, and free. I belong to You. Luke belongs to You. Mom belongs to Your mercy. Hold us all, and lead us in the way of peace. Amen.

Forgiving Luke At The Graveside
Lord, I come to You at the beginning of something new, carrying something old. I need to forgive my brother Luke for what he said at Mom's funeral, and I don't know how. Those are my honest words, and I bring them to You exactly as they are. I am not going to dress them up. You already know the sentence he spoke. You heard it before I did. You were standing there at the grave when the wound was made. First, Lord, let me grieve. Mom is gone, and the funeral should have been a place of tears and nothing else. Instead it became a place of injury. My brother's words landed where my heart was already broken open. I have carried them ever since, and they are heavy. I confess that some days I carry them on purpose. I turn them over. I rehearse what I should have said. Forgive me for making a home for this bitterness. It has not sheltered me. It has only made me colder. I don't know how to forgive him. So I ask You to teach me. I cannot manufacture this grace out of my own will. Forgiveness is Your work before it is mine. You forgave me a debt I could never repay, and You did it from a cross, while the wounds were still fresh. Lord, I am not asking to feel warm toward Luke tonight. I am asking for the first small act of the will. I choose, trembling, to want to forgive him. Where I cannot yet say I forgive, let me say I am willing to be made willing. I place Luke in Your hands. He is my brother. He is Mom's son. She loved us both, and she is with You now, beyond every harsh word ever spoken under this sky. I ask You to bless him, even though part of me resists praying that. Bless him, Lord. Heal whatever in him spoke so cruelly in a moment of grief. Let Your mercy reach him before my mercy does, and let Your mercy carry mine the rest of the way. I ask for the intercession of the Blessed Mother, who stood at the foot of the cross and heard her Son forgive the men who killed Him. Mary, Mother of Sorrows, you know what it is to stand at a grave with a pierced heart. Pray for me. Ask your Son to soften what has gone hard in me. Teach me to hold my grief and my brother in the same heart, the way you held everything and pondered it. Lord, I also bring You the funeral itself. Redeem that day. What was spoken there cannot be unspoken, but it can be covered. Let the memory of Mom be larger than the memory of that sentence. Let me remember her face, her faith, her love, and not only the moment that wounded me. She deserves that. So do I. So, in the end, does Luke. Examine my heart tonight, Lord. Show me where I have nursed this injury. Show me where I have told the story to others to keep the anger alive. Show me where I have punished Luke in silence, in distance, in coldness. I confess these things. Wash me in the grace of Reconciliation, and when I next kneel for confession, give me the courage to name this plainly and leave it there. I do not expect this to finish tonight. Forgiveness may be a long road, and I will walk it slowly. But tonight I take the first step. I release my right to revenge. I release the fantasy of the perfect apology. I release the hope of a different past. Into Your hands, Lord, I place my brother, my mother, my grief, and my heart. Be merciful to me, a sinner. Make me merciful, as You are merciful. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Strength for the Journey and Breath for Linda
Lord, I come to You today with a heart that feels as worn as the road I have been driving. You know the miles I have covered this week. You know the weight of the hospital doors and the sound of the machines keeping my mother, Linda, stable. I am tired, Father. My body is heavy with the exhaustion of these daily trips, and my mind is stretched thin by the worry of what each new day will bring. I bring all of this to You because I have nowhere else to set it down. You are the God who sees me on the highway and in the hospital room. You are the God who knows the exact rhythm of my mom’s breathing. I ask You to be the source of Linda’s strength right now. Her lungs are struggling, and she is relying on oxygen to do what her body was made to do naturally. I ask for restoration in her chest and clarity in her breathing. I pray that the pneumonia would lift and that her strength would return day by day. You are the one who gives breath to all things. Your Word says that You heal the brokenhearted and bandage their wounds. I am asking You to bandage Linda’s lungs and restore her vitality so she can come home. Please guide the doctors and nurses as they adjust her care, giving them wisdom that goes beyond their training. Lord, I also need You to sustain me, Elena, in this long middle ground. I feel the drain of being the one who shows up, the one who watches, and the one who waits. When I am behind the wheel, be my peace. When I am sitting by her bed, be my comfort. I often feel like I am running on empty, but Your grace is sufficient for me. Your power is perfected in my weakness. Help me not to rely on my own stamina, which is failing, but on Your endless supply of mercy that is new every single morning. Let me find moments of rest even in the noise of the hospital. I confess that it is hard to stay patient when the progress feels slow. It is easy to let fear take the driver’s seat. I surrender my need to control the outcome and I place Linda’s life back into Your hands. You love her even more than I do. You have walked with her for seventy-four years, and You are not leaving her side now. Give her a sense of Your presence in that room so she does not feel isolated or afraid. Let the oxygen she breathes be a reminder that You are the very air she needs to survive. Surround her with Your protection and let her body respond to the treatment. As I continue these trips back and forth, I pray for safety on the road and focus for my mind. Do not let the exhaustion turn into despair. Remind me that this season, as heavy as it is, is held by You. I choose to trust that You are working even when the monitors don't show it yet. I look to You for the restoration of Linda’s health and the restoration of my own spirit. I believe that You are the Great Physician, and I trust Your timing and Your heart. Thank You for hearing me and for being the God who never grows weary or tired. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Linda Still on Oxygen
Lord, I come to You tired. Not just physically tired from the miles and the parking lots and the hospital hallways, but tired in a way that goes deeper than sleep can reach. I am running on fumes, and I need You to meet me here before I can even form the right words. I lift Linda to You again. You already know every number on her chart, every reading on that oxygen monitor, every breath her lungs are working to take. She is not hidden from You in that hospital room. Your Word says that You heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds, and I am asking You to bind up what is broken in her body right now. Her lungs. Her strength. Whatever is keeping her tethered to that machine. You made her. You know exactly what she needs. Thank You for the doctor You brought to her case. I saw You move in that, and I do not want to forget it. Even now, when the oxygen is still on and the days are blurring together, I want to hold onto that answered prayer. You were faithful then. You are faithful now. Help me trust that the same God who sent the right physician is still working, even when the progress is slow. Father, I need to be honest about the exhaustion. The driving back and forth every day is wearing me down. I am doing it because I love her and I cannot imagine not being there, but I am running low. Your Word says that those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint. I need that promise to be true for me right now, today, on this particular stretch of road. Renew what is depleted in me. Let me walk into that hospital room with something left to give her. I think about how You see Linda in that bed. Not just a patient, not just a case. You see my mother. The woman who raised me. I ask You to be present with her in the hours I am not there. When the night is long and the ward is quiet and she is lying there with that oxygen line, let her feel that she is not alone. Give her rest that actually restores her. Give her lungs room to heal. Breathe life into her the way only You can. And Lord, I confess that I am afraid. I have been trying to keep it together for her sake, but underneath the driving and the visiting and the checking in with nurses, there is real fear. I do not want to lose her. I am not ready. I know that You are the resurrection and the life, and I know that You hold every day in Your hand. But I am her daughter, and I am scared. I bring that fear to You instead of carrying it alone. Cast out what I cannot manage on my own, and replace it with the peace that surpasses understanding. I also ask You to guard Linda's spirit. Hospitals can be discouraging. Days on oxygen can feel like going backward. Keep her from despair. Remind her that You have not forgotten her, that her life is precious to You, and that You are the God who restores. Let her believe that even now. Make me attentive to what she actually needs when I am with her. Not just present in body but truly there with her. Let the time in that room count. Let her know she is loved, by me and by You. And when I have to leave and make that drive home again, let me go in peace, trusting her into Your hands for the night. You are the Lord who heals. That is not a title I am reaching for; it is who You have said You are. I am standing on it for Linda. Heal her lungs. Restore her body. Bring her home. And sustain me until that day comes. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Knowing You Are With Me
Lord, I come to You at the beginning of this new step of prayer. I do not want to say words only because they sound right. I want to know that You are actually with me today. That is what I am asking for. I want to know that You are near when I wake up, when I am occupied with ordinary things, and when my thoughts become quiet again. Sometimes You feel far from me, and I do not know how to cross that distance. But You are not far from those who call on You in truth. Teach me that I can come to You plainly, just as I am, and that You welcome me because of Jesus. God, I am new to this life of following You. There is much I do not yet understand. I may not always know what to pray. I may wonder whether You hear me, or whether my small and unfinished words matter to You. Please meet me in those questions. Give me faith that seeks understanding instead of pretending that I have no doubts. Like the father who came to Jesus, I pray, I believe; help my unbelief. Help me trust You when I do not feel certain. Help me keep turning toward You when I feel far away. Thank You that Your presence does not depend on how strong my prayers sound. Thank You that Jesus is not distant from the weak, the confused, or the person taking their first honest steps toward Him. You know me fully. You know what I mean when all I can say is, Be with me. Hear that prayer today. Make Your nearness real to me through Your Word, through a quiet reminder of Your kindness, and through the steady knowledge that I belong to You. Guard me from thinking that silence means You have left. Your promise is stronger than my changing thoughts. Please teach me to pray. Give me a simple willingness to speak honestly to You each day. When I have joy, teach me to thank You. When I have sin to confess, give me courage not to hide from You. When I need help, show me that I can ask. When I cannot find many words, remind me that You already know my need. Put a desire for Scripture in me, and help me learn who You are there: holy and merciful, strong and gentle, faithful and close. Let prayer become less like trying to perform for You and more like coming to my Father through Jesus. Lord, be with me in the actual hours ahead. Be with me in every conversation, decision, task, and interruption. Keep me from carrying life as though I am alone. When fear tells me that You are absent, bring me back to what is true. You have said, “I will never leave you or abandon you.” Let that promise settle deeply in me. Give me eyes to recognize Your care, even in small ways. Give me a heart that returns to You again and again. I do not ask You to make everything easy. I ask You to make me faithful, teachable, and sure that You are God with me today. Thank You for receiving this first prayer, even with all that I do not know how to say. Thank You for drawing me to Yourself. Lead me one day at a time. Help me know Jesus more, trust Him more, and follow Him in the ordinary places of my life. I place my questions, my longing, and my need to know You are near into Your hands. You are faithful, Lord. Stay close to me, and help me rest in the truth that You already are. In Jesus' name, Amen.
B
Be With Me Today
Lord, I come to You with simple words, because simple is all I have. I just want to know that You are actually with me today. Not as an idea. Not as something I say because Christians say it. I want to know it the way I know the ground is under my feet. So I am asking You plainly: be with me. Be near. Let this be real. I am new at this, Father. I do not have a long history of prayers to look back on. I do not know all the right words yet. But I know that You said You would be with Your people always, to the very end of the age. I am holding onto that sentence like a hand in the dark. You did not say You would be with the strong ones, or the ones who have been praying for decades. You said You would be with Your people. And I want to be one of Your people. I want to belong to You. You know that I have felt far from You. I have had days where God seemed like a word other people used, not a presence I could reach. But here I am, reaching anyway. And Your Word says that when we draw near to You, You draw near to us. So I am drawing near in the only way I know how, with this prayer, awkward and honest and small. Meet me in it, Lord. Do not let me pray into silence. Let me sense, even faintly, that Someone is listening. Thank You that I do not have to clean myself up first. Thank You that the way to You is not a ladder I climb but a door You opened. Jesus said He is the way, and I am coming by that way today. Thank You that my being new is not a problem for You. You are patient with beginners. You welcomed children. You welcomed doubters. You welcomed people who had nothing to offer but their need. That is what I have. Need. And a small, real desire to know You. Teach me to pray, Lord, the way Your disciples once asked You to teach them. I want prayer to become more than a moment like this one. I want it to become a habit of my heart, a place I return to morning and evening, in joy and in trouble. Show me that I can talk to You about ordinary things. About my worries, my work, the people I love, the fears I do not say out loud. Nothing is too small for Your attention. Nothing about me is beneath Your care. When I finish this prayer and go back into my day, go with me. That is the heart of what I am asking. Be with me in the car, at the table, in the quiet moments when I wonder if any of this is true. Remind me then that I prayed, and that You heard. Put Your nearness in front of me in ways I can recognize, in kindness from others, in a verse that lands at the right time, in a peace that does not match my circumstances. Give me eyes to notice You. And when I doubt, because I will doubt, be patient with me. I believe; help my unbelief. Hold onto me when my grip on You feels weak. You are the shepherd who goes after the one sheep. If I wander, come find me. If I forget You, do not forget me. I am asking You to be faithful in all the places I am still learning to be. So today I start here, at the beginning, with one request that carries everything else. Be with me, Lord. Actually with me. Today. In Jesus' name, Amen.

I'm Not Sure I Believe But I Want to Try
God of truth, I want to begin honestly, because I do not know another way to begin. I am not sure I believe. I want to try. Those are my own words, and I am bringing them to You just as they are. I am not going to dress them up. I am not going to pretend to a confidence I do not have. If You are really there, I would rather meet You honestly than impress You falsely. So here is my whole offering tonight: uncertainty, and a small willingness to try. I do not know if that is enough. But it is true, and it is what I have. If You are the God the Bible describes, then I do not think my uncertainty offends You. There was a man in the Gospels who came to Jesus desperate for help, and when Jesus spoke to him about belief, the man cried out, I do believe; help my unbelief. He held both things at once. Belief and unbelief in the same sentence, in the same breath. And Jesus did not turn him away for it. He answered him. So I am asking You for the same kindness. Where I believe, strengthen it. Where I do not believe yet, help my unbelief. Meet me in the middle of that sentence, the way You met him. I confess that I do not know how to pray. This may be the first real prayer I have ever prayed. I do not know the right words or the right posture. I do not know if I am supposed to feel something. But I have heard that prayer is not a performance. It is simply speaking to You, and trusting that You listen. Your Word says that You are near to all who call on You in truth. So I am calling, in truth, even if my truth tonight is mostly questions. If You are near, then this is not a message sent into empty space. Someone is on the other end of this. I want to learn what it means to talk to You, not as a ritual, but as a real conversation that grows over time. I am not asking You to prove everything to me in one night. I think I am asking for something smaller and more honest than that. I am asking for enough light to take the next step. I have heard it said that faith is not the absence of doubt but a direction walked in spite of it. If that is true, then let tonight be a first step. Let this small act of trying count for something in Your sight. You said through Your prophet that You do not break a bruised reed or snuff out a smoldering wick. If my faith right now is only a smolder, a faint ember instead of a flame, then do not snuff it out. Breathe on it gently. Protect it while it is small. Teach me to pray, God. That is what Your own followers once asked Jesus, and He did not shame them for asking. He taught them. He gave them simple words about daily bread and forgiveness and Your kingdom. So I ask the same. Teach me. When I do not know what to say, let honesty be enough. When I am distracted, draw me back without condemnation. When I wonder whether anyone is listening, remind me that You have been listening longer than I have been speaking. Let prayer become for me not a duty I dread but a door I keep walking through, a little less afraid each time. I also ask that You would make Yourself known to me in ways I can actually recognize. I do not want secondhand faith forever, built only on what other people have told me. If You are real, I want to know You, not just know about You. You promised that those who seek will find, and that the one who knocks will have the door opened. I am seeking. This prayer is my knock, quiet as it is. I am not pounding on the door. I am tapping on it, half-expecting silence. But I am tapping. Please do not let me tap in vain. And while I wait for clarity, give me patience with the process. I do not have to settle every question tonight. I do not have to have a testimony or a theology or a tidy ending. I only have to keep coming back. So help me come back. Tomorrow, and the day after. Let this not be a one-time experiment I abandon, but the beginning of a long, honest conversation. Give me people who will walk with me without pressure. Give me eyes to notice the small answers, the quiet provisions, the moments that might be You. So I end where I began. I am not sure I believe. But I want to try, and tonight I am trying. Receive this prayer, not because it is polished, but because it is mine and it is honest. If You are who Your Word says You are, then You are not looking for polished. You are looking for me. Here I am. Help my unbelief. Teach me to pray. And let this small beginning grow into something real. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A First Honest Step Toward God
God of truth, I come to You today just as I am. I am standing at a new beginning, and I want to be honest about where I am starting. I am not sure I believe, but I want to try. Those words are the truest thing I can say to You right now. I have met a guide named Samuel to walk with me, and I am grateful for the company, but ultimately it is You I am looking for. I am reaching out into the unknown. I am asking You to meet me in this space where I am still exploring what is real and what is true. Lord, I have questions that I cannot answer on my own. I have doubts that feel heavy, yet there is a small spark in me that wants to know You. I ask that You would take this desire to try and turn it into something solid. You said in Your Word that if we seek, we will find. I am seeking now. I am not looking for a quick fix or a feeling that disappears by morning. I am looking for the truth of who You are. If You are there, please make Your presence known to my heart in a way I can understand. I want to learn how to talk to You. I have chosen to focus on prayer because I want to know if there is someone listening on the other side. Help me to be patient with myself as I learn this new language. I do not want to perform or use fancy words that do not belong to me. I want to speak plainly. I want to bring my uncertainty to You instead of hiding it. I want to believe that You are a God who welcomes the curious and the skeptical just as much as the confident. Forgive me for the times I have stayed away because I felt I did not have enough faith. I see now that faith can start as small as a mustard seed. Today, my faith is simply the act of showing up and saying these words. I am opening the door just a crack. I am asking You to come in and show me what life looks like when You are at the center of it. Give me the courage to keep showing up even on the days when I feel like I am talking to the air. Thank You for the people You put in my path to help me. I thank You for this journey I am starting with Samuel. Let this be a time of discovery rather than a time of pressure. I want to see Your character. I want to understand Your love, which the Bible says surpasses all knowledge. If Your love is really that big, then it is big enough for my questions and my hesitation. I am placing my desire to try into Your hands today. I ask that You would guide my thoughts as I move forward. When I read the Scriptures, let the words jump off the page and speak to my life. When I sit in silence, let me feel a peace that I cannot explain. I am not sure where this path leads, but I am willing to take the next step. I am here, Lord. I am trying. Please lead me toward the light of Your truth. Amen.
